Turkish and preschool teacher candidates skills of summarizing the reading materials in the Turkish lesson teaching aids

In this study, the candidates of Turkish and classroom teachers? skills of summarizing the reading materials in the Turkish lesson teaching aids are tried to be examined. The main purpose of this study is to reveal whether the summarizing skills of the reading materials are changing according to the sections, genres, sex and the reading habits or not.200 students, who are objective, are chosen from the Faculties of Education in Ankara Gazi University and Abant Izzet Baysal University as samples. In order to evaluate the summarizing skills of the teachers who attended as samples a kind o scale is developed called ?The scale of the Summarized Articles Evaluation?. The utilized statistics techniques are Cronbach alfa, percentage (%), frequency (f), arithmetic mean (X), standard deviation (S), unrelated measurement t-test, for variant analysis ANOVA.In the study these results are handled:?There is a remarkable difference between of the Turkish teacher candidates and classroom teacher candidates, in favour of Turkish teacher candidates, when taken into account the summarizing skills of the informative articles. Turkish Teachers? skills are in ?medium? level, but classroom teachers skills are in ?low? level.?In respect to the summarizing skills of the narrative articles, in favour of the Turkish teachers, there is a remarkable difference between classroom teachers. Turkish Teachers? summarizing skills in this type of article is in ?medium? level, classroom teachers? skills are in ?low? level.?In the skills of summarizing relating to both kinds of article, there is a great difference in favour of informative articles rather than narrative ones. In genereal the teachers? skills of summarizing the informative articles are in ?medium? level, on the other hand the narrative articles? summarization is in ?low? level.?In terms of the evaluation standards that are determined about the ability of article summarizing, generally the teacher candidates are in ?low? level in the phase of ?erasing?, in the phases of ?generalizing? and ?reestablishment? Turkish teacher candidates are in ?medium? level, classroom teachers are in ?low? level.?Schoolmarms are more successful than schoolmasters in article summarizing.?There is a stunning difference between the teacher candidates? reading habits and their success in article summarization- when taken into account the number of the books they have read in the last one -year-period.By the help of the study, it is observed and understood that the teacher candidates, who are going to teach the mother tongue, are in lack of information and ability during the process of summarization of the reading materials in the teaching aids. In this sense, the education programs applied in the faculties of education should be revised and in the process of teacher formation, in order to teach the summarization skill effectively, the appropriate teaching methods and techniques should be used and in this field the necessity of specialist and competent instructors should be supplied.Key Words: Reading, The Strategies of Reading Comprehension, Summarization, Turkish and Classroom Teacher Candidates, Teaching of Turkish.
