An example of intralingual translation in Turkish Hüseyin Rahmi Gürpınar's The "Last Desire" novel

Intralingual translation, which has emerged as a new field of study in Turkish literature, is a form of intervention made by the author, publishing house or official institutions in order to eliminate the differences within and between dialects, to minimize the increasing linguistic distance between the author and the reader and to increase the comprehensibility of the text by the reader. This study aims to determine the place of intralingual translation in Turkish literature, to discuss the concept with its controversial aspects and to determine the form and level of the modification made in a selected work. In this direction, the first edition of the novel Son Arzu, which was completed in Heybeliada on February 26, 1334/1916, was compared with the fifth edition published by Atlas Bookstore in 1984, which was published by İbrahim Hilmi Bey in Orhaniye Printing House in 1338/1920, and the level of change in the language and the interventions of the translator in the text were tried to be determined. The differences identified as a result of the analysis are presented and interpreted under the main headings of changes, additions, deletions and interventions at the syntactic level, with examples of changes made to the text at the level of affix, word, word group and sentence.
