Certainty in Turkish

Humans, have been in search of certainty for centuries, and this search has become the subject of research in many fields of science such as philosophy, law, mathematics, logic and linguistics. Certainty, which is also very effective in daily life, provides a strong sense of trust by ensuring correct understanding in communication and facilitating decision-making processes. The curiosity inherent in human nature, the desire to discover, the effort to make sense of life and eliminate uncertainties have formed the basis of the process of acquiring knowledge for centuries, and for this reason, certainty and knowledge have been directly associated. Certainty; which is one of the degrees in the level of knowledge, shows the knowledge that is not in doubt, is sure and does not contain any hesitation. The speaker uses certainty markers to convey his/her utterance more clearly and precisely. These markers increase the power and impact of language by preventing misunderstandings in the exchange of information between the speaker and the listener at the time of communication, and help to convey the desired message to the other party accurately and precisely. In this thesis, firstly, the concept of certainty is discussed from a broad perspective and the theoretical background is created, and then the certainty markers used in Turkey Turkish are tried to be identified on the movie script "Salkım Hanım'ın Taneleri". As a result of the scanning, many markers including morphological, morpho-syntactical, lexical-syntactical (Nouns/Verbs (Predicate), Adverbs, Exclamations) marking the meaning field of certainty were found and it was tried to show how and how they were used in the dialogue.
