An examination of texts in the journal of Türkçem in terms of educational values

Together with the increasing importance given to child in recent years, child ed-ucation has become more of an issue. Nations which attach importance to their future and want to bring character-wise individuals up invest mostly to children. Nations which are aware that generations not embracing their values will pose danger for them focus on moral and character education of children. It is important that children have universal, national and moral values and they can transform these values to behaviors. Children who have these values form the base of healthy societies. It is required to discover the world of children in order to get them acquire some universal, national and moral values. Children's literature has covered an important distance in discover-ing the world of children. Many children's literature works are benefited in gaining terminal behaviors. One of these works is doubtlessly children's periodicals. Children have the chance of meeting qualified literary works thanks to these periodicals ad-dressing themselves. Children satisfy their many needs such fun, curiosity and dream-ing through qualified literary works in the periodicals. As fulfilling these needs, they acquire universal, national and moral values. Thus, children's periodicals have an im-portant role in transferring values to children. In this study, journal of Türkçem which first published in Kosovo in 1999 with the sub headings of "Let's Keep the Joy of Mother Tongue Alive in Balkans". The contributions of texts in Türkçem to value transfer were tried to be identified. With this aim, 42 volumes of this journal published between August 2013 and September 2016 were analyzed. The texts were examined through document analysis and the values identified were gathered under themes. It was concluded that children could gain universal, national and moral values through the texts in Türkçem and this journal took an important responsibility in building future and identity.
