Abstract (EN)

Learning a foreign language has turned into a necessity in the globalizing world. The most important resourse used for the purpose of being able to meet this need is dictionary. This resource which is needed as much as a teacher in some conditions and more than a teacher in some other conditions is an indispensable element of language learning. For this reason, it confronts with us in many different types to be able to meet the needs of the users within years. The concept of bilingualized dictionary being one of these types took its place in literature in 1986 and has been adapted to more than twenty languages up to now. The concept of bilingualized dictionary is very novel in our country and currently there is no bilingualized Turkish dictionary. The aforementioned more than twenty dicrionaries have been studied by more than twenty countries, but unfortunately the studies conducted in our country on bilingualized dictionaries remain as theories, no step has been taken at the point of application. The aim of this study is to put into practice this concept of bilingualized dictionary remaining a theory, produce a bilingualized Turkish dictionary and try to compensate for a point deficient when compared to the world. As it is known, the bilingualized dictionaries are prepared by taking a dictionary as a reference and adapting it to the bilingualized format. In this study, the list of the words in A2 level taking place in the book called Yedi Iklim Turkce published by Yunus Emre Institute and also the definitions given for these words by Turkish Language Association have been taken as references and the lexical entries and the definitions of these lexical entries given by TLA have been translated into English. In addition to the definitions, the sample sentences given mostly by TLA have also been included in the study and afterwards, these sample sentences or the externally added sample sentences have been translated into English. This study prepared according to the model suggestion method is the first study taking Turkish as the basis for the bilingualized dictionaries. This model includes both the definition and exemplification expressions and the English translations of these two. In this way, an opportunity of both being able to understand what they read and see in which context the mentioned word is used in A2 level with the sample sentences has been formed for the foreigners wishing to learn Turkish as a foreign language. Therefore; this newly produced dictionary is foreseen to be widely used in the issue of teaching Turkish as a foreign language.
