A study on the effect of fable use on values education in teaching turkish to foreign children- La Fontaine example

The aim of this study was to examine the effect of fable type on values education for children learning Turkish as a foreign language. The starting point of the study was that the rate of benefiting from fable-type values education in the field of teaching Turkish to foreign children is very low. In the research, the fable type was preferred on the grounds that it allows the child reader to enter the events in a fun way by putting himself in the place of the hero, and the purpose of writing is to gain value. The study is a qualitative research and a literature review was conducted for the study. In terms of leading the study, from the universe of Turkish textbooks written mainly for foreign children, Yunus Emre Institute's Turkish textbooks for foreign children "I'm Learning Turkish" (I'm Learning Turkish Textbooks 1,2,3,4, 2015) textbooks and workbooks (I'm Learning Turkish Workbooks 1,2,3,4, 2015) and Yunus Emre Institute's "Turkish for Children" textbook series (Turkish for Children 1,2) were selected. In the study, the textbooks and workbooks written by Yunus Emre Institute, which has many branches both in the world and in Turkey, as a Turkish textbook for foreign children learning Turkish, were examined. Since Yunus Emre Institute's books are institutional and they are the children's books most used in teaching Turkish to foreigners, the "I'm Learning Turkish" textbook and workbook set, and the "Turkish for Children (TfC)" sets were preferred since there is no other textbook for children. Fable type was not found in these books, therefore it was determined that the fable did not have the necessary value in the field, and by making a literature review, it was seen that the fable type was used very little in the literature in teaching Turkish to foreign children. Based on these shortcomings, the 24th edition of La Fontaine Tales, edited by Orhan Veli Kanık, published in 2020, and first edition published in 2013 by Yapı Kredi Publications, was chosen in order to examine the effect of fable use on values education in this study. The study was examined within the scope of 31 values determined in addition to the 10 root values targeted by the Ministry of National Education. As a result of the study, it has been determined that the use of fables in teaching Turkish to foreign children can contribute to values education and the transfer of Turkish national values with the sensitivity of the teacher. In order to support the data, the opinion of one Turkish teacher for foreigners was taken. In addition, in order to approach the field from a different perspective, it was interpreted by taking the opinions of 3 psychologists.
