The evalaution of the effectiveness of the textbook Yeni Hitit used in teaching Turkish as a foreing language in terms of the four basic language skills and culture

In this study, Yeni Hitit, which is one of the textbooks used in teaching Turkish as a foreign language, is examined in terms of four basic language skills and culture.One of the training materials used in teaching Turkish as a foreign language is the textbooks. During the education and training process, they are one of the most widely used training material in the classroom. These books which contain dialogues, texts and grammatical structures prepared in accordance with the learner?s academic level have a very important place in the success of the teaching and learning process.In this respect, studies conducted about how thet exts of books used in teaching Turkish as a foreign language should be, and which points should be considered in creating a textbook or text have been examined. As a result of these, tables have been prepared for the four basic language skills and the cultural context, and the texts in Yeni Hitit B1 level have been examined in terms of the four basic language skills and cultural characteristics.When the texts are examined with regard to four basic language skills, it is observed that the questions prepared to understand the text have been given as instructions in the teacher?s book.In terms of subject matter, it is again observed that texts keep universal culture and the individual in the fore front but almost make no effort to compare the target culture and the universal culture. When examined from the cultural point of view, it is seen that only four in 49 texts have a cultural comparison.It is observed very little that in terms of subject smatter contained in the texts kept at the fore front of the concept of universal culture and the individual and it is observed very little that efforts to make a comparison between the target culture and universal cultureThe mentioned book is composed of basic, intermediate and high-intermediate levels. However, our study is limited toeight units chosen from the 12 units of Yeni Hitit B1.
