Social values in the lesson books for teaching Turkish as aforeign language

All of the common thoughts, goals, basic moral principles, and beliefs of individuals and social groups can be defined as values. The concept of value is very important both for the individual and for maintaining the peace and continuity of the individual's society. Values, which are the common property of societies, maintain their continuity as long as they are adopted and implemented by societies. For this, both individuals and the education community have significant responsibilities. This study emphasizes the concepts of social value and the social values in the textbooks used in teaching Turkish as a foreign language. Social values are included in the value group covering the whole society and do not differ from person to person. Social values, which have the principle of what the society wants and cares about, are the building blocks that provide order and create social unity and solidarity. This study aims to determine the place and importance of social values, which have an important place in social life, in the textbooks prepared at A1 and A2 levels for teaching Turkish as a foreign language. In this context Yedi İklim Yabancılar İçin Türkçe A1-A2, Yeni Hitit Yabancılar İçin Türkçe A1-A2, İstanbul Yabancılar İçin Türkçe A1-A2, Gazi Yabancılar İçin Türkçe A1-A2, Türkçeye Yolculuk Yabancılar İçin Türkçe A1-A2 ve Altay Türkçe Öğreniyorum Yabancılar İçin Türkçe A1-A2 a total of 12 textbooks in Turkish for Foreigners at A1-A2 levels were examined. In the examined textbooks, 683 texts in 82 units were scanned. Among the examined texts; The social values of being fair, giving importance to family unity, independence, peace, being scientific, hardworking, solidarity, sensitivity, honesty, aesthetics, tolerance, hospitality, freedom, giving importance to being healthy, respect, love, responsibility, cleanliness, patriotism, benevolence have been determined. As a result of examining six different book sets prepared for teaching Turkish as a foreign language, a total of 89 social values at A1 level and 111 social values at A2 level were determined. The most common social value in A1 level textbooks is benevolence. In the A2 level textbooks examined, love is the most common social value.
