Abstract (EN)
Objective : The Severe Impairment Battery (SIB) is developed to test cognitive function in patients with dementia of moderate to severe degree. We have conducted a study to asssess the inter-rater reliability and the validity of the Turkish version of SIB.Methods : 80 patients who lived in a nursing home and met the criteria of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, for the demantia. The Severe Impairment Battery (SIB), Clinical Dementia Rating scale and the Mini Mental State Examination were applied to patientsResults : The mean SIB score was 78.1 (21.29). the Cronbach alpha was 0.97, and the inter-rater reliabilty of total SIB score was Pearson?s rho 0.99, and ranged from 0.99 to 0.96 for the sub-scores. The mean SIB score for patients with a CDR score ? 2 was 94.72 (3.4), whereas total scores for patients with CDR 2 and 3 were 87.29 (3.85) and 51.96 (19.8), respectively. Correlation between the SIB and the MMSE was .83, while correlation between the SIB and CDR -0.78.Conclusions : This study indicates taht the Turkish version of the SIB is a reliable and valid test with which to evaluate the cognition in patients with dementia of moderate to severe degree.Key Words : Severe Impairment Battery, Dementia, CDR, validity, reliability
