Abstract (EN)

Beginning upon the Russians' conquest of Kazan in 1552, their expansion in Turkish lands gradually caused the Turks to get deprived of their hierarchy in Turkistan. This expansion continued in the Soviet Russia era, as well as in the Tsarist Russia. Turkistanis took military and political steps to fight against the Russian's expansionism. These counteractions of Turkistanis were deemed by the Russians "Basmachi Movement". When we address this movement called "Basmachi", we clearly see that this term doesn't define the movement appropriately at all. As those who participated in the movement were called by Turkistanis "Korbashi", the movement is sometimes called "Korbashi Movement" in various studies. However, in recent studies, it is usually known as "Independentism". Given these facts, it will be more sensible to call this movement "Korbashi Movement" or "Independence Movement". The overall purpose of this study is to take a closer review in Korbashi Şir Muhammed Bek's life, who is one of the most prominent figures in the Turkistan National Independence Movement, called by Russians "public enemy", his challenges in his fight against foreign forces and his personality and to emphasize his contributions to the movement, the Russians' expansion in Turkistan and counteractions taken against it.
