A content analysis study for theses on the subject of dyscalculia (mathematics learning disability) published in turkey between 2001-2024

In this study, it was aimed to see the trends of the postgraduate theses on Mathematics Learning Disabilities (Dyscalculia) in Turkey between 2001 and 2024. In this way, it was aimed to have an idea about this subject, to provide a collective information to readers who want to benefit from the research results, and to raise awareness about students with learning difficulties. The sample of the study consisted of postgraduate theses (19 master's theses and 11 doctoral dissertations) on Mathematics Learning Disabilities (Dyscalculia) in Turkey. Document analysis method was used as the method of the study. The data were analyzed with descriptive analysis method. It was aimed to examine the theses in terms of "years published, field, method used, study group / sample, data collection tools, data analysis techniques, university, keyword, type, topics and results". The findings revealed that the theses on dyscalculia were first published in 2015 and the most in 2023, the majority of them were master's theses, they were written in areas other than education, therefore, a lot of keywords were used, they were mostly designed with qualitative research method, most of the samples were students, more questionnaires / open-ended questionnaires / tests / scales and interviews were used in data collection tools, descriptive and content analysis were used to analyze qualitative data, It was concluded that various analysis methods were used in the analysis of quantitative data, most of the theses were published at Gazi University, the title of opinion determination was used the most in the theses, teachers' and prospective teachers' awareness of the concept of dyscalculia was insufficient, success was achieved in teaching methods and strategies applied to students, families did not provide sufficient support, and these students had structural and functional differences in terms of health. It was recommended to plan activities that will enable those who will work with dyscalculia to come together for certain periods of time and to carry out awareness studies on the subject.
