Relations between Turkey and USA (1918-1923)

ABSTRACTUnited States which was found on 4 July 1776 in the ?New World?, after thedeclaration of Monroe Doctrine, by adopting the principle of keeping away from the politicsof ?Old World? began to show an interest in new developments in America. This isolationpolitics kept on until on 6 April 1917. President Wilson, put an end to this traditional politicsby asking for declaration war on Germany in his speech in senete.Consequently,a new periodstarted which will have bad effects on Wilson?s and American?s political office.United Stateswas performing the protective role of the democracy with the new policy became concrete bydeclared 14 principles and these can be called `Wilson İdealism?.The fourteen principle declared by Wilson, gave hope to the nations who want tosecure independence by seperating from Ottoman Empire. Wilson had aimed to have marketsand a voice in the international competetion by the another suggested principle called ?OpenDoor? policy. This new shakeup which is made by Wilson get United States mixed inEuropean politics which they never wanted to be in.Although United States declared war on Germany on 6 April 1917, he did not directlydeclare war on Ottoman Empire. Because of Germany?s pressure, Ottoman Empire broke offthe relations with United States on 20 April1917. During the Armistice period, politicalrelations between two countries were broken off and connection was tried to make in anotherinformal ways and also, it is observed that by the help of this strategy, United States tried toprotect his economic situation in that region.United States, who followed the same strategy innation-wide movement began in Anatolia,firstly acted prudently, but after Sakarya War bysending political and commercial representatives to Ankara, he began to develop relationswith Türkish goverment.
