Analysis of social study reports prepared in Turkey and Germany in the context of system theory

Social work as an applied science makes use of various theories. One of these theories is system theory and contributes to the application. Based on this information, this study is based on the absence of a study that theoretically measures social review reports. The research problem aims to reveal whether the system theory is used in social study reports, which are an output of social work practices, and the sub-question aims to reveal the similarities and differences of the social study reports prepared in Turkey and Germany. For this purpose, this study is based on qualitative research and prepared by social workers in Turkey and Germany, 20 social analysis reports in the fields of child, youth, elderly, disabled, family, women, home care, rehabilitation, custody and foster family, document analysis method. evaluated and analyzed in the context of systems theory. In order to support the findings of the research, the views of 10 social workers who provide service in Turkey and Germany on systems theory and social work were also evaluated. According to the findings based on the comparison of both countries in the document reviews, a similar result is that social workers intervene by considering the systems in which the individual interacts as a whole. In terms of the differences between the two countries, it has been understood that practitioners in Turkey often refer to "social work literature" in their social review reports, and they emphasize the concept of "holistic evaluation" in the decision-making process. It was understood that the practitioners in Germany took initiative in the social investigation process management, reflected their interactions with the formal systems in the report, the examination also took place outside the household and they made descriptions on the clients. The findings obtained from the interviews were that social workers in both countries reflected the system point of view in their reports by prioritizing the well-being of the individual and the family, and benefited from systems theory in their decision-making and evaluation processes. The holistic result of the study reveals that a social review report in which systems theory knowledge is used provides a holistic view in evaluating clients and performing an effective intervention for them, and helps to make the right decision.
