Armenia and normalization crisis in Turkey-Azerbaijan relations

This thesis examines Turkey ? Azerbaijan relations particularly the normalization crisis in the relations. Also, in this study Turkey ? Azerbaijan and Turkey ? Armenia relations have been scrutinized closely in order to clarify the role of Armenia in the Turkey ? Azerbaijan relations. At the same time, the change in Turkish foreign policy, the implications of this change for the South Caucasus have been evaluated. In this context especially the normalization process between Turkey and Armenia and its impact on Turkish ? Azerbaijani relations have been investigated thoroughly. By the scope of the study at the first part the concept of crisis and its main aspects in international relations have been explained in order to clarify the crisis between Turkey and Azerbaijan. In general, has been given some knowledge about crisis, crisis management and third parties in international crises. The second part has been focused on the relations between Turkey and Azerbaijan. After researching historical background of the relations this part elaborates political, economic and security relations, as well as factors that affect the bilateral relations. In this context the role of Armenia in the foreign policy of Azerbaijan and Turkey as well as in the Turkey ? Azerbaijan relations have been emphasized. At the third part, the normalization process between Turkey and Armenia, the reasons that triggered this process, regional and non ? regional actors? attitudes toward the process have been analyzed in detail.
