As a result of using new information and communication technologies inmass media, there has been fascinating developments in media industry sinvethe 1990?s. As the time and distance are no longer a concern in production,transmission and presentation of news, the number of mass media instrumentsis increasing. While the content of the news is getting richer, the strongcompetetion to reach the readers and audience is leading to continuousinvestments in the media sector.In addition to the technological advances, globalization andmonopolization and similar economic, social and political developments effectthe media industry. The tendency towards monopolization in media industryhas reached to intercontinental dimensions. Media workers are directlyinfluenced by these developments. Although the media workers have afundamental role in the production of the news, and although the number ofmass media instruments are increasing, the journalists are faced withunemployment. In parallel to general developments in the media industry, theeconomical, legal and political aspects of Turkey causes problems inemployment and conditions of workplace.Media workers? employment problems in Turkey has been studied in thefirst chapter; primarily media, media workers and media industry conceptshave been emphasized, followed by a structural analysis of the media industry.In the second chapter, the reason of changes in employment structure of themedia industry and its effects thereof, have been evaluated in both generalperspective and from the perspective of Turkey. Finally, the jointrecommendations towards the solution of the employment problems that hasbeen pointed out are provided in chapter 3.Key World: 1) Journalist. 2) Press. 3) Media Sector.4) Employment. 5) Mass Media.
