Abstract (EN)

The need of energy is continuing to rise day by day to provide a sustainable human life due to increased human population needs and industrialization. Contemporarily, almost all of the countries face with energy resource problems. Due to the fact that the majority source of fossil fuels are under the risk of existence and resulting environmental issues by consumption of fossil fuels, countries are led to use alternative energy resources. The aim of this thesis is analyzing renewable energy source, which is biodiesel energy, and giving significant advices to develop Turkish biodiesel industry by examining other countries' successful and innovative regulatory approaches to biodiesel development. According to the researches, expanding biodiesel production and development in the early 2000s in Turkey, is becoming stable nowadays. Moreover, the amount of manufacturing biodiesel in Turkey is way under the expectations despite of having a strong agricultural potential. The main reason behind this is the limited demand for raw material procurement and the lack of politics, which has been happening by the result of ambiguity in industry. During the analysis performed within the scope of the thesis, United States and European Union biodiesel markets which serve as a model for our country are examined. As a result of the findings, financial assessment has been made for agricultural and biodiesel manufacturers and fuel distributers which are the members of the wide range supply chain of Turkish biodiesel industry. Furthermore, cost-benefit analysis of biodiesel industry for the country has been performed. In conclusion, forecasting analysis has been made by using the exponential smoothing and regression methods to observe the projection of biodiesel industry between the years 2015-2020. According to the results of forecasting analysis, advices have been provided on the behalf of two alternative scenarios to increase the effectiveness of the industry.
