Awareness analysis on biosmuggling (wildlife smuggling) in Türkiye, current evaluation of change and fight management in the last 20 years

Considering that every living thing in nature has a function, the loss of a species will have consequences that can directly affect the life of all living things. Taking plants and animals or their parts from nature without the permission of the authorities and taking them abroad is called "biosmuggling (Wildlife Smuggling)" or "biopiracy". The aim of this study is to reveal the importance of Turkey's biodiversity and to contribute to the prevention of biosmuggling in Turkey by drawing attention to the biosmuggling that causes the reduction of biodiversity. Therefore, in this study, information about the relevant legislation and institutional structures from the world and our country regarding biosmuggling is given. The data explanations information-documents and articles published on the subject and case data to be obtained from the relevant public institutions-organizations on the subject constitute the materials of the study. In the study, compilation, survey studies awareness analysis, statistical analysis, process management approaches methods were used. Following the reflection of the events in the media and the examination of the previously published documents, these data were separated in 10 year time periods before (2003-2012) and after (2013-2022) the date of publication of the Anti-Bio-smuggling Guide announced in 2013. Efficiency efficiency status was tested by quantitatively analyzing the change in cases across the country. In addition, awareness analyzes for different stakeholders in the field on the subject; It has been tested practically with perception awareness surveys for the personnel of public institutions and organizations in Ankara Province-Çubuk District and the customs personnel at Esenboğa Airport. As a result of all these data, the determination of the current problems in the management of the fight against wildlife smuggling and putting forward the solution proposals formed the conclusion recommendation part of the study.
