Settlement policy of the Republic of Turkey

The thesis named ?Settlement Policy of the Republic of Turkey?, consists of two main sections. In the first section, the concepts commonly used in the research are examined to create the conceptual framework of the thesis and also Ottoman settlement policy which is historical background of settlement in Turkey is evaluated.In the second section titled ?Analysis of Settlement Policy of the Republic of Turkey?; the reasons that shaped the policy of settlement and factors related to settlement policy as well as settlement organization and the legal regulations related to the settlement are evaluated. The history of the Republic of Turkey is the history of migration. In this context, migration experience, security detection and modernization process of Turkey experienced from 1923 to 2000s has had many effects on the development of the settlement policy.Settlement policy practices are also studied by classifying as; the settlement due to migrations, the settlement due to security purposes, and resettlement applications. In the last part of the thesis, economic, social and political consequences of settlement policy and practices are evaluated in general.
