Türkiye'de klasik arkeoloji ve biyoarkeoloji arasındaki multidisipliner iş birliğinin incelenmesi: Teorik ve metodolojik bir tartışma

This is a descriptive study that examines the level of collaboration and integration between classical archaeology and bioarchaeology in Türkiye. The subject is investigated from a theoretical and methodological perspective, employing a mixed-methods explanatory sequential design. This is a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods in three parts. In the first part, bibliometric data on bioarchaeological research in the context of classical archaeology are collected through content analysis of six Turkish archaeological journals. Secondly, a survey is conducted among classical archaeology academics affiliated to Turkish universities. The aim of the questionnaire is to determine the practices within the field of archaeology, the backgrounds of the scholars and their attitudes towards bioarchaeology. The final part is the qualitative part, which consists of in-depth semi-structured interviews with some of the respondents. The interviews facilitate a more comprehensive understanding of the practices and degree of multidisciplinary collaboration between the two fields. The data obtained through the three methods is voluminous and is subjected to a rigorous and thorough evaluation in relation to one another. Furthermore, the results are discussed in the context of the published literature on the practice of classical archaeology, including the critiques regarding this issue. In conclusion, the results of this study indicate that the level of cooperation between the two fields remains low. Nevertheless, there is evidence of a positive shift over time, with the integration of bioarchaeology into classical archaeological contexts and practices.
