Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to determine the explosive properties of lignite coal dust samples obtained from Afşin-Elbistan/Kahramanmaraş, Soma/Manisa and Tunçbilek/Kütahya regions for safe design and operation of underground coal mines, process and storage facilities and to make recommendations to prevent dust explosions in terms of safety. Investigation of explosion properties of lignite coal samples was done with 20-L Siwek sphere chamber. Maximum Explosion Pressure (Pmax), Lower Explosion Limit (LEL), Maximum Explosion Pressure Rise Rate (dp/dt)max and Dust Explosion Constant (KSt) values were measured. The results suggest that the lignite dusts examined can explode under suitable conditions. In addition, in the scope of this study, a method and device have been developed that can accurately and quickly measure the effectiveness of the schist technique applied to prevent the explosion of coal dust. The results obtained from the experiments with the developed camera image based system were compared with the results of the stone dust and coal dust mixtures obtained in the laboratory. The device is able to determine the rate of stone dust / coal dust by 0.57% at the latest within five minutes.
