Examination of moral decision-making attitudes of bocce and darts athletes in Turkey

Abstract (EN)
This research is a descriptive study in the screening model. This paper aims determination of ethical decision-making attitudes of darts and bocce athletes in Turkey and were made to examine the different variables. The universe of the study is composed of 33,612 licensed athletes in the Turkish Bocce Bowling and Dart Federation, according to the latest published year of 2017. The research sample consists of 383 athletes participating in the 2017-2018 Championship seasons in Turkey. Participans of this study were volunteers. Attitudes to Moral Decision-making in Youth Sport Questionnaire (AMDYSQ) which was developed by Lee and his colleagues and adapted to Turkish by Bahri Gürpınar was applied in the study. Percentage (%), frequency (f) and arithmetic mean () values of the obtained data were examined and the relationship between subscales of the scale was examined by Spearman correlation test and Mann Whitney-U and Kruskal Wallis tests were used in multiple group comparisons in the analysis of the answers given by two separate congregations. XI 45.7% of the athletes participating in the survey are darts and 54.3% are bocce athletes. 45.2% of these athletes are female and 54.8% are male. Participants are mostly; It is seen that they are composed of athletes who compete under the age of 18 (children's and young's) category, they are in high school and college education level, the sport age is between one and four years, they are participating in competitions with sports club licence and their coaches are generally male. There are quite a few national athletes among the participants. Survey findings show that athletes are in a negative attitude towards negative sub-dimension of "Acceptance of Cheating" and "Acceptance of Gamesmanship". It is seen that the athletes displayed a positive attitude in the "Keeping Winning in Proportion" sub-dimension. And generally, score of athletes is high on the AMDYS Questionnaire. Positive and significant correlations were observed between the "AMDYSQ" sub-dimensions. Positive and significant correlations were observed between the "AMDYSQ" sub-dimensions. There was a statistically significant difference between the scores of the sportsmen's branch and sport slicense and subscales of the scale. There was no statistically significant difference between the gender, age and competition categories, educational status, duration of sports, being national athlete , and the gender of the coaches and the scores they received from the subscales of the scale.
