Analysis and evaluation of outsourcing processes in aircraft maintenance activities in Turkey

Nowadays, because companies would like to focus on their own business and provide other services from out of company, outsourcing is very popular. Companies reduce their costs, keep the company size small and effective and focus on their own business that they know very well.Outsourcing allows the top managements to examine themselves and determine their core competencies. In airline industry most popular process for outsourcing is aircraft maintenance. All the airline companies must maintain safe flights, but generaly maintenance is not the core business. Therefore they prefer to perform simple maintenance activities in-house, but for heavy maintenance activities they prefer to use outside suppliers have all special equipments and experience.In this research, the importance of outsourcing for aircraft maintenance activities and company decisions have been examined into 4 chapters.First chapter of the study is a literature review. In the second chapter, aircraft maintenance activities and third chapter, outsourcing practices in airline maintenance organization and samples from global airlines have been examined. Last chapter is the result of maintenance outsourcing practices research about airline companies in Turkey.
