The situation and effects of Syrians in Turkey on the labor market: The case of the technology market

Throughout history, people have moved for a variety of reasons, with these relocation processes being shaped by factors such as the search for a safe life, improved economic opportunities, avoidance of war and climatic disasters. Migration is considered a multidimensional social phenomenon, with its economic, psycho-social, legal and cultural dimensions. These processes have profound effects on both the individuals who migrate and the regions to which they migrate. Compelling factors, including natural disasters, acts of violence and violations of human rights, have driven millions to seek refuge elsewhere. The social movements that emerged in the aftermath of the Arab Spring in the Middle East are indicative of the region's prevailing political and economic instability, with the civil war in Syria contributing to significant migratory patterns.Turkey has been the most impacted nation by these migratory flows. This study examines the general situation of Syrians in Turkey following the Syrian Civil War and analyses their effects on the labour market, with a particular focus on the technology market.While the study addresses the general situation of the migration phenomenon, its aims, and the historical perspective of international migration, it also analyses mass migration movements towards Turkey following the Syrian crisis and the socio-economic effects of these migrations. A particular focus of the study is the adaptation and contributions of Syrians who have established businesses in the technology market or who work in this field to the local and national economy. The status of Syrian entrepreneurs in the technology sector and their contributions to the Turkish economy have been analysed through field research, which entailed conducting field studies on Syrians engaged in entrepreneurial activities in the technology market in Turkey or working in this field. Interviews were conducted using a semi-structured questionnaire and analysed qualitatively with NVIVO 15 software. The study's objective is to gain a more comprehensive understanding of processes such as social impact and change, economic adaptation and transformation, and its effects on Turkey's social and economic structure by analysing the dynamics of migration movements in the context of the technology market.
