A research about the effect of tourism education on employment in tourism sector and anatolian vocational high schools of hotel management and tourism

Today tourism is one of the most important industries concerning its contribution to the economy and culture of a country. It?s an important industry where people come together in a particular place at a particular time and get service; there is a face to face relation and communication. Tourism is also one of the leading industries economical effect of which on people can immediately be observed. The main reason for this is that tourism is a labor-intensive industry. The whole income affects the employment directly in this sector and indirectly in another. It is of vital importance for the development of tourism in a country to employ people who have the necessary knowledge and skills in this area. The economical contribution of tourism is now indisputable therefore the tourism education shouldn?t be ignored or neglected in any way. In Turkey, tourism education starts from primary school and continues with the high school up to academic level leading to postgraduate degrees. The purpose of the study is to identify the efficiency of the education given in Anatolian Vocational High Schools of Hotel Management and Tourism where new staff is being educated and trained for the sub sectors of the tourism industry; the qualifications of the trainees and the graduates of this school and also their future expectations from this industry. This study tries to find out how effective the Anatolian Vocational High Schools of Hotel Management and Tourism are in meeting the needs for potential new personnel in and training them for future. This study also offers some suggestions to overcome the shortcomings and the problems both in enterprises and in Anatolian Vocational High Schools of Hotel Management and Tourism.
