The determination of the yield and quality characteristics of valencia orange types selected in Turkey

Prof. Dr. Bilge YILDIRIMProf. Dr. Faruk EMEKSİZIn this study, the yield and fruit characteristics of thirteen Valencia typesselected in citrus growing regions of Turkey during 1979-1983 years were examinedin Adana ecological conditions during 2002, 2003 and 2004 years as the second stageof the citrus selection project. Twenty three pomologic and three vegetatifcharacteristics were evaluated with analyses and measurements so, the types whichhas the best results for each one of the characteristics were determined. Besides, theclones that were shown superior performance were found by using weighed averagedmethod.As a result, 55-A, 59-A and 76-A types were determined with the highestyield per tree. The best types were found 88-A, 58-D, and 59-A, in yield per tree andother selected characters by using weighed averaged method. On the other hand, 75-A, 57-D and 76-A were determined the best types in terms of yield per tree canopyvolume with the same method.Key Words: Citrus, Orange, Valencia, Selection breeding
