Development of ecological movement in Turkey: Case of Ağaçkakan Journal

This study contains two main chapters except Introduction and Conclusion. In the introduction, the subject of study has been defined and provide information about the methodology. The first chapter entitled ?New Social Movements and Ecological Movement? in which before all else new social movement theory has been analysed. Besides, in this chapter basic concepts related with the subject of this study are intellectualized and with respect to these concepts, the problem of the difference of ?ecological approach? and ?environmental protectionism? is discussed in detail. Both of the approaches are handled with regard to their intellectual structures, principals, perspectives to the ecological problems, aims and targets. Then, the process of political organization of ecological movement and ?Yeşiller Partisi? experience in Turkey has been utilized.In the second chapter, the texts published in Ağaçkakan journal have been grouped and evaluated per their issues. Aiming to shed a light on qualitative opposing matter of Ağaçkakan journal and to understand the way of expressing public opposition, 40 issues which published in the period of 1992-2003 are searched in detail.The study followed by a accumulative assessment has ended with bibliography and appendices. In this study, Ağaçkakan journal has been academically studied with the political, social, cultural and economic principles and suggestions of the groups within the ecology movement in Turkey, especially S.O.S Akdeniz association.Key Words: New Social Movements, Ecological Movement, Ecological Politics, Ağaçkakan Journal
