Importance of texts in newspaper desing in Turkey

With online media outlets gaining significance in our daily lives every passing day, it has become harder to get readers' attention to printed newspapers. The way the newspaper is presented to readers has a vital role in getting their attention. Front pages serveas a showcase which summarize the news stories on the coming pages. For this very reason, the front page should be in a clearly readable and distinguished format. This is where the design comes into play. The design is the most effective way of communicating news stories to readers. In my thesis, I attempted to investigate different types of newspaper designs in Turkey, analyzing texts, images, infographics and some other visual elements according to artistic and technical criteria. I provided information on technical criteria required to make this analysis. Addressed in the thesis are also the common elements used in the newspaper design and the best practices in the field.
