The examination of the role of internal migration on somatization, cognitive emotion regulation and coping strategies in Turkey

This study aims to analyze the role of internal migration on cognitive emotion regulation, coping strategies and somatization in Turkey. The study is conducted on 194 people in total (95 expatriated and 99 non expatriated). The data of the study is collected via Personal Information Form, Coping Strategies Scale, Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire and Somatization Scale. As a result of the study it is found out that the cognitive emotion regulation, coping strategies and somatization does not differ significantly depending on the immigration status of the individuals.People who expatriated due the to other reasons tend to have higher acceptance and blaming others level than people who expatriated due to economic reasons. Female immigrants have mental disengagement, denial and alcohol-drug disengagement strategies more than male immigrants. Immigrants who have low education level tend to have more seeking social support-instrumental, restraint coping, alcohol-drug disengagement and acceptance level than who have higher education level. Married immigrants tend to have mental disengagement, restraint coping, alcohol-drug disengagement, acceptance, planning and positive reinterpretation growth more than single immigrants.Immigrants over 50 years old tent to have denial, behavioral disengagement, acceptance, planning attitudes more than younger immigrants. As a result of the study it is found out that blaming others, positive reappraisal and putting into perspective from cognitive emotion regulation dimensions and focus on venting of emotions from coping strategies predict the somatization.
