Socio economic status of the unemployed disabled in Turkey: A case of Nigde province

The simultaneous manifestation of unemployment and disability in an individual reflects a multiple disadvantage, but also shows that the individual in the mentioned situation is at the center of socioeconomic problems. In this framework, focusing on the problems of disabled people who continue their struggle for life on the ground of unemployment gains importance in terms of disability policies.From this point of view, "How is the socioeconomic status of the unemployed disabled people in Turkey?" and the thesis topic is shaped by this research question. The aim of the thesis topic is to understand deeply how the socio-economic problems brought about by unemployment affect the social and economic life of the disabled and to analyze the socioeconomic status of the unemployed disabled. By this purpose, the interviews was conducted with 57 unemployed disabled individuals who are residing in Niğde by semi-structured interview technique, various findings were reached in the thesis study, which was based on the qualitative research method and based theory was chosen as the research design. The results of the research conducted within the scope of the social situation of the unemployed disabled are as follows; they are isolated in their social relations and generally at home, spending their time on the internet in their daily activities. Their socio-cultural activities are suppressed and they experience political exclusion. They are also affected by various public service deficits, especially health services. Finally, the ostracism-based exclusion form is dominant in the attitude of the society. Within the scope of the economic situation, it was determined that most of the participants had low personal expenditures in their economic life, had difficulty in reaching their needs, and complained about social assistance. Within the scope of the psychological state, it was determined that most of the participants externalized the disability and attributed it to the society and the understanding of destiny. It have been concluded in the source of job search motivation that economic-based factors and the desire for socialization come to the fore instead of requests such as reputation and personal development.
