An investigation of traffic accident causes on highway and analysis of traffic accidents in Turkey

With the advance of technology, transportation is becoming more important today and performed by seaway, airway railway and highway. Notwithstanding, in developed countries, transportation was performed by airway and railway with high ratio, transportation was performed by highway with 95 % in Turkey. Due to this fact, traffic accidents are frequently occurred in Turkey when compared with other developing countries. In this study, with the traffic accidents which are occurred even if strict controls and precautions are taken, are investigated, the factors effecting traffic accident are analyzed, the factors which are effected by traffic accident and the factors effecting traffic accident are determined and the solutions are suggested based on these factors. Moreover, with the application of fuzzy DEMATEL method, the cause factor and effect factor in traffic accidents are examined. It is seen that this model yields consistent findings.
