Slow food movement in rural-urban context of conflict in Turkey: Germiyan example

With the fact of globalization and industrialization, the towns have been becoming monotype, losing the local characteristics, been forgotten of its local specialties and protecting the natural environment has been becoming secondary importance. The slow- food and inspired by that slow-city movement which have been showed up as a result of this stiuation, are the movements accepted as one of the alternative methods created against the results of the way of eating protest in the leadership of Carlo Petrini, who was an expert about the cuisines, against the opening of Mcdonalds which adopted fast-foodin Rome, İtaly. At the begining it was a local movement, later on it became an international movement that has more effects on public and in 1989, slow food international was founded by the delegates of 15 countries. Slow food movement now in 2019 has 1.000.000 supporters and 100.000 members. In this article, the main purpose is to find out whether or not this is an effective movement to reduce the hostility towards countryside living while the natural environment is being protected in small towns. On this purpose, some of the slow food examples in Turkey and around the World are analyzed and Germiyan neighborhood of Çeşme in İzmir is chosen as a field because in 2015, it was chosen as the first slow food village of Turkey with the public acceptance for the movement to improve the region and solve the problem which occurred as a result of the contradiction of countryside living with the migration to the region. Furthermore, by the effects of the fact that the slow food movement expended up to cities, this article includes the slow city movement which is objecting to some negative results like becoming monotype that the globalization creates especially in towns.
