Abstract (EN)
In this study, it was aimed to investigate the economic structure, production problems, efficiency level and inefficiency reasons of dry bean farms, and determination of factors affecting on production of dry bean producers in 7 provinces where provide 61 per cent of total production in Turkey. By using research findings, recommendations on dry bean farming is developed. According to research findings, while average size of farm investigated is 132,4 decare, it is 25,3 decare for dry bean farms. Average yield in dry bean farms was calculated 244, 4 kg/decare. Active capital of dry bean farms were 530,1 thousands TL, and the value of the active capital was composed of 81 per cent fixed capital and 19 per cent operating capital on farms. Average gross margins per decare in investigated farms were found to be 1442 TL and production cost were 663 TL. 84.4 per cent of production costs were composed of variable cost while 18.6 per cent were fixed costs. Production cost for 1 kg dry bean were calculated as 2.7 TL. The variable returns to scale and average technical efficiency were calculated as 80 per cent. Both failure in producing current production at minimum input use and unable to produce in appropriate scale would be a reason of inefficiency in input use. Factors affecting on dry bean farmers' decision making process were determined as family size, finance, behaviours, age, and experience in dry bean farming, family labour, transportation and knowledge source.
