A qualitative research on the effect of logistics 4.0 on employment in Turkey

Logistics is a concept that will not lose its importance as long as people exist. In the early days, people used the simplest form of logistics. However, the growing world population, the increase in people's needs and technological developments have completely changed the functioning of logistics. With the developing technology, logistics has evolved over time and is expected to evolve in the future. Today, the concept of Industry 4.0, which was first introduced in Germany and adopted by many companies, is used. The concept of Industry 4.0 has affected many parts of the industry and has had its share in logistics. Thus, it can be said that the concept of Industry 4.0 also reveals the concept of Logistics 4.0. In this study, the use of Logistics 4.0 in companies and how it affects employment has been examined with a qualitative research method. 13 interview questions were asked to logistics managers of 10 companies interested in the logistics sector. The answers to the interview questions were analyzed using the phenomenology design, one of the qualitative research methods. Considering the findings of the research, it is thought that the work done with manpower in the logistics 4.0 sector may be negatively affected. On the contrary, it is believed that the management of technological, innovative, automation systems and system activities that make strategic decisions can be positively affected in terms of employment. In addition, some of the participants think that the different employment cadres revealed by the logistics 4.0 components will increase the number of employees and supply chain efficiency within the company, and this increase has a positive effect on employment. It is thought that the results of the research will contribute to the personnel who work and will work in the logistics sector, as well as to the researchers who will work in this field in the future.
