Social media use of parliamentarians in Turkey and dialogical communication analysis

Abstract (EN)

In Political Communication, Media Technologies have caused several concepts to reshape and evolve into different dimensions especially with the Web 2.0 come into our lives. With Social Media's spread all over the world rapidly, social media has become a new medium for political communication alongside with digitalizing communication. Political Communication researches in Turkey also focalised this field by this spread. Social Media-Political Communication researches analyze the communication processes between political parties, politicians and voters at a symmetrical and asymettrical level. Common result of these researches is that political actors do not communicate dialogically in the scene. With, this result is often expressed by deficiencies or weaknesses in democratic cultures. This study is a qualitative research to comprehend the dialogical communicaton analyse capacity and social media usage of deputies in Turkey. With the semi-structured interview form prepared by the researcher, interviews were made with the 15 deputies in Turkish Grand National Assembly. This research is admissible as an original study by virtue of face to face interviews with the members of parliament. This research reached the conclusion that deputies indicates their claim for having a dialogical communication and attention to be involved in everything the whole way regardless of their political party and their insufficient time. Main reasons for the deputies having a dialogical communication are lack of time due to fundamental duties, the balance setting impossibleness to respond everyone that may cause an ailment, the possibility of redundant argument and polemics and the lack of control mechanism based on democratic ground. One of the most effective methods of traditional political communication is convessing. The concept of digital field in political communication, which is getting closer to the social media axis more and more, has emerged with this research. Digital field is defined as a study that enables one-to-one and instant contact with the citizen over social media as part of dialogic communication and to increase the political actors recognition over social media.
