Institutional structure of new immigration policy of Turkey: General Directorate of Migration Management

In this study, Turkey's changing politics of migration and immigration, developments in migration management and institutional structure of migration management are examined. In the first part of the study, making migration and migration terms related definitions, the concepts and theories of migration are examined. In the second part, Turkey's history of migration is examined. Migration movements that occurred after the proclamation of the Republic is divided into three periods. Until 1980, migratory movements mostly happened by coming into the country through the exchange of people of Turkish origin. But it was replaced by the mass migration of foreigners coming from border neighbors. In this process, administrative and legal developments in migration management are examined through the influence of the European Union. In the third chapter, the Law on Foreigners and International Protection, the most important step taken in the management of immigration, and its contribution to migration legislation are analyzed. The establishment process and organizational structure of the General Directorate of Migration Management were examined. The institutional structure of migration management is discussed with changes of the Turkey's immigration policy.
