Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, the occupational accidents experienced in the oil and gas drilling field services in Turkey is defined. The situation of Turkey in terms of occupational accidents taking place in other countries is put forward and original method for the scientific classification of occupational accidents is developed. The contribution of this method to the literature is shown. 32.948 field personnel work reports of one of oil drilling contractors in Turkey were classified and statistically examined within the context of this study. Besides, 646 occupational accident reports between 2011 and 2018 were examined with the same approach after which the data derived from the reports were digitized and a database was formed using this electronic data. Descriptive statistics, cluster analyses, and discriminant analyses were conducted on this database that was built up for utilization in accident analyses. Cluster and discriminant analyses reveal that the existing classification of accidents based on lost time incidents are not correct and the number of existing classifications are not sufficient. The current groups formed for the classification of accidents in the literature are primarily based on post-accident lost-time injuries and are evaluated in either two or five classes. However, it was concluded that the number of classes required for the classification of accidents should be "eight". Yet, a more comprehensive and innovative approach in comparison to other studies in the literature was developed in this study and the derivation of more realistic results with the successful application of the method used and diversity of the data defined was provided.
