Qualitative research on podcast journalism in Türkey

Abstract (EN)

This study focuses on different aspects of podcast journalism in Turkey. The aim of the study is to reveal the podcast journalism practices being implemented in Turkey in the context of representatives of media organizations, journalists and individual publishers. For this purpose, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 33 media professionals representing 30 different news podcasts published by 7 digital media platforms, 6 internet news websites, 6 individual publishers/journalists, 3 radio stations, 3 newspapers, 2 television channels, 1 news agency, 1 internet radio station and 1 podcast production company. The data obtained in the study, which was based on the case study from qualitative research designs, was analyzed and interpreted by descriptive analysis method under 25 different themes. As a result of the research, it was found that different implementation practices related to podcast journalism in Turkey were carried out; that some media organizations and journalists carried out their work in the field of podcast media to support the other publishing activities; that some media organizations and journalists produced special content regarding the field of the podcast and evaluated this field separately from other fields. In the study, which a classification regarding the podcast news based on podcast journalism practices in Turkey was proposed, the current implementation practices of podcast journalism in Turkey were also examined, together with its various aspects, from the perspective of media professionals and different predictions were set forth related to its future situation.
