Army in the Anatolian Seljukids

The Anatolian Seljukids was established as a consequence of Turcoman migrations into Anatolia. The military power of the state was basicly depended on the Turcomans until the middle of the XII. century. By the time, following the state organisation, the military system was adopted to the Islamic model as well. Effectiveness of the Turcomans in the army was diminished and the newly emerged military power was depended on gulams, soldiers of iqta, vassal forces and mercenaries. Different factors played role in this development; the Islamic-Tukish states pirior to the Anatolian Seljukids, geographic and social conditions of Anatolia, Byzantine and the Crusaders.The military system of the Anatolian Seljukids was followed by the Turkish amirates and Ottomans founded in the same region. In this respect, the Anatolian Seljukids was a bridge between Central Asia and Middle East related with the Turkish military organisation which come from Central Asia, enriched in Middle East and carried to Europe by the Ottomans. During the Anatolian Seljukids period one of the most important reasons of Anatolia?s becoming the Turks? forever homeland is the development and military superiority in the Turkish military system.
