The anxiety level of the Gaziantep Football Team, one of the super league teams of Turkey both before and after the contest

Prof. Sadrettin PENÇEDecember 2005, 45PagesABSTRACTThis research was made for investigating the anxiety levels, both before and after the match, ofthe Professional footballers who play in the Gaziantepsport football team, one of the super leagueteams.Our study was made for the Gaziantepsport and Ankaragücüsport club match which was one ofthe super league contests of football federation and hold the 25 th. week. The Gaziantepsportfootballers, who played in the Gaziantepsport and Ankaragücüsport club match, participated in thisresearch.During the research, some ?changable anxiety? tests were applied on 46 footballers. These testswere applied three times: a day before the contest, before the contest and after the contest. In order todetermine the differences between the anxiety degrees of the footballers, Wilcoxon Test were applied.A day before the contest, the changable anxiety level was 39,17 + 9,88; before the match, thetrait anxitey level was 36,23 + 10,61; and after the contest, the state an,xety levelwas 28,05 + 3,91. So,there were statistically clear differences in the connections between the state anixety levels. (P<0,05)A day before the contest, the trait anxiety level was 42,82 + 7,59; before the match, the traitanixety level was 41,64 + 6,31; and after the contest, the trait anixety level was 38,05 + 7,63. So, therewere clear differences in the connections between the continual anixety levels before the contest andafter the contest. (P<0,05)After comparing the trait anixety levels and the trait anxiety levels, it was found that the traitlanixety was correlated to the changable anixety before and after the contest. (P<0,05)As a result; the importance of the contest, the air and the field conditions, the pressures of thesupporters, and the position in scoring had a great effect on the anixety levels of the footballers. Thestate anixety before the contest was found as the highest degree, Yet, winning the contest, attaining thegoal and then the victory of the team provided the changable anxiety level to become less.Key Words: Football, Anxiety, before the match, after the match.II
