II SUMMARY Master Thesis Ash ARSLAN NATURAL DISASTER IN TURKEY (1923-1950) The Fırat University The Institute of Social Science The History Department 2003, Page: XIV + 255 Natural disasters have always occured since the beginning of human life in the world and they will occur again and again. These events which happen in different forms lead great loss in different places and times as their happening time is not known. The events such as earthquakes, floods, epidemic diseases, landslides, drought affect a great majority of human being and they often occur in Turkey. Turkey's geography is suitable for these disasters and nearly every year natural disasters occur successively. These events, which cause loss of life more than a war, have the power of changing population, economic and socio-cultural life of a country. It is not always possible to prevent these events to happen. In this study, the natural disasters and their results in a period of 27 years in Turkey were investigated.
