The decrease in agricultural sector employment and the effect on the labor market in Turkey

The decrease in the share agricultural sector has in the national income within years is accepted as an indicator of industrialization and development. In the process of industrialization, it is an expected development that as the national income of countries increases the share of agricultural sector decreases and the shares of industry sector and services sector increase within the national income. However, whether or not the decrease experienced in the share of agriculture within the national income in our country is the indicator of a healthy progress should be discussed.How the process of economic growth is depending on the foreign capital inflows today and the fact that the Turkish industry sector has become a subcontractor industry integrated with the international capital cause employment generated to have a temporary and instable quality.Therefore, there are various reasons behind decrease experienced in the agricultural employment in Turkey today. Many factors such as the change experienced in the development paradigm, executing the structural adjustment policies and economic crises generally create effects that decrease the employment and agricultural employment.
