Agricultural finance and credit practices in Turkey: Tekirdağ example

In this study, the agricultural sector, which has a significant share in Turkey's economy and finance lending practices were examined, showing examples of Tekirdag province aimed to reveal the importance of agricultural financing. The survey was completed by using questionnaires with 169 farm owners selected with the proportional distribution among the farmers included in the farmers registry system in eleven districts in Tekirdağ province, using the primary and secondary questionnaires. The data obtained from the surveys in the field research were analyzed statistically by computerized software package and logistic regression method. In the study, socio-economic analyzes of enterprises and their credit status were examined. The financial needs of enterprises are examined by which institutions they meet. As a result of the survey, it was determined that agricultural holdings accounted for 82,20% of Ziraat Bank, 16,60%. The reasons for preferring the agricultural bank are the appropriateness of interest rates. As a result, competition in agricultural loans increased in the banking sector as private banks entered agricultural banking. The instruments presented to the producer in agricultural loans have diversified. However, due to the high interest rates in the agricultural sector, the producer prefers the Ziraat Bank, whose purpose is to support the agricultural sector. Therefore, it is important for the producer to reduce credit costs in agricultural financing and loan applications.
