Error analysis of language skills of foreign students learning Turkish in Turkey

Researches/Studies on Teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language have been done for long years and today the number of foreign students who have learnt Turkish has been rapidly increasing at universities and language institutions in Turkey. The academic studies in the related field have also been raised thanks to this progress. On the other hand, most of these studies have been focusing on teaching materials, curriculum design and language skills. There are not many research studies on learners' errors. Error analysis has been accepted as a crucial part of Applied Linguistics since 1970s and it has been worked on greatly since then. Studies on error analysis is really of a great significance in terms of providing the knowledge of how a language is acquired, identifying learning strategies of learners and learning by their own mistakes. It is neither common nor easy to find academic research studies in analysis of errors in Turkish Teaching as a Foreign Language in Turkey. In this study, it is aimed to evaluate the language skills of the foreign learners who have learnt in the context of error analysis. Qualitative methods will be followed to collect data in this study. There will be three parts in this study; in the first part, information about the subjects covering theories and appraches in the related field, what error is in foreign language teaching, the differences between a mistake and an error, the reasons of errors, types, importance of them and error correction will be presented. The next part includes collecting the related data regarding the research method; identifiying, defining, explaining and analysing the learners' errors. In the last part, findings which are collected through analysing the errors and the outcomes of the research questions will be interpreted and evaluated.
