Emotion verbs in Turkish dialects

In this study, it is aimed to determine the ways Anatolian people express their emotions as verbs, the differences in the pronunciation of these verbs, how many of them there are and their types. In particular, the study sought to answer the questions of which emotion verbs Anatolian people use and with which variations they express them. This research, which is based on a mixed methodology combining survey and descriptive designs, is limited to the 6 volumes of the Türkiye'de Halk Ağzından Derleme Sözlüğü, including the appendices. This dictionary was scanned in alphabetical order in terms of emotion verbs and the findings obtained as a result of the scanning were classified according to primary, secondary, tertiary emotion classes; positive, negative, mixed emotion values and finally emotion types such as joy, fear, love etc. by referring to TenHouten's 2007 and 2013 studies. As a result of the classification, 3179 emotion verbs were witnessed in Turkish dialects of Türkiye. It was concluded that these verbs were in three different emotion classes: primary, secondary, tertiary emotion classes, in terms of quantity, from more to less, and negative emotion verbs were in the majority in terms of value. In terms of emotion type, it was determined that emotion verbs expressing sadness were more common. This study shows that the historical and cultural accumulation of Anatolian people is reflected in the vocabulary of the dialect, especially in the verbs of emotion, as richness and that the dialects of Turkish dialects of Türkiye have a multi-layered meaning network.
