Soil concept and its conceptual field in Turkish dialects

This dissertation titled Soil Concept and Its Conceptual Field In Turkish Dialects was prepared in order to reveal what the concept of soil corresponds to and what kind of place it occupies in the minds of Turkish dialect speakers living within the borders of the Republic of Turkey in material and spiritual terms through dialect texts. It is aimed to reach the mind via language use through the perspective of cognitive linguistics and for this purpose, frame semantics approach, one of the theories of cognitive linguistics, has formed the basis of our method of analysis. In order to understand the conceptualisation process in the mind through spoken language, the material of our study was compiled by line-by-line scanning of the transcribed dialect texts in the studies of dialect researchers. It has been attempted to reach as far as possible all of the published books and unpublished doctoral theses prepared on the Turkish dialects since the beginning of dialect studies in Turkey. For some cities where there were no books or doctoral dissertations on their dialects, a master's thesis on the central dialect of the city was used, if available. Since the dissertation is a semantics study while generating the study material, only examples that are possible to be examined in their contexts were compiled. For this reason, lexicographical studies on Turkish dialects are excluded, as well as phrases that are found in the glossary sections or word lists of the dialect studies but are not mentioned in the deciphered texts. In the first chapter of the thesis, which consists of three chapters, the basic concepts and theoretical framework on which the research is built are given. The second chapter is the Review chapter in which the frames of the conceptual field of soil are presented and evaluated with all their elements and sample drawings. The third chapter consists of a context dictionary that enables the identification and analysis of the concept frames that constitute the conceptual field of soil in the minds of dialect speakers. Thus, the concept of soil in the minds of Turkish dialect speakers, how it is perceived by them and how it takes place in their lives, was attempted to be clarified.
