Abstract (EN)

People are interrelated, and language is the fundamental means through which they communicate their ideas and emotions to one another. It is well recognized that a language has an impact on the phonetics and meaning of words that are borrowed or quoted from another language. This thesis is based on a comparison between the dictionaries of contemporary Arabic and words that have been used, changed in meaning through time, and evolved into slang and metaphors after entering Turkish from Arabic. In order to determine the slang and metaphorization in the borrowed words of Arabic origin in Turkey Turkish, the Turkish Dictionary of the Turkish Language Association, the Kubbeaaltı Lugati/Misalli Büyük Turkish Dictionary and Hulki Aktunç's Great Slang Dictionary were examined. The detected words and the obtained data are compared with the Modern Arabic dictionaries. An introduction and four major sections make up the research. The topics of semantics, metaphor and metaphorization, slang and slang terminology are discussed in the introduction. After metaphors and slang in the borrowed words from Arabic that entered Turkish had been identified, the findings were disclosed by comparing the determined data with the words from Arabic to Turkish and from Arabic to Arabic.
