The children's literature books recommended by Turkish language teachers in terms of values within the Türkiye Century Education Model middle school Turkish curriculum

This study aims to examine the children's literature books recommended by Turkish teachers for middle school students, based on the values included in the Turkey Century Maarif Model Turkish Curriculum (MEB, 2024). In the first leg of the study, data were collected from 42 Turkish teachers working in Zonguldak province using a survey developed by the researcher. Prominent among the works recommended by the teachers are: "My Grandfather's Grocer," "This Is called Findel," and "Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes" for 5th grade students; "Let's Bring the Sky Down," "The Powder of Hyperbole," and "Charlie's Chocolate Factory" for 6th grade students; "A Child's Heart," "Purple Clouds in the Sky," and "The Music Inside Me" for 7th grade students; and "Momo," "White Fang," and "My Left Foot" for 8th grade students. In the second leg of the study, the books listed were analyzed using the values included in the curriculum as themes. The analysis utilized context analysis. The study revealed that the values of friendship, responsibility, love, and honesty were prominent in the books recommended by teachers to students. Furthermore, it was concluded that children's literature could contain valuable content that could be used in values education. Based on the study results, it can be suggested that teacher guidance could be utilized to create a holistic reading list encompassing the values included in TYMM-2024.
