Contrasting concepts in Tuva proverbs

Proverbs are oral literature products that most clearly reflect a society's language and cultural heritage, and Tuva Turkish proverbs hold significant importance in this context. The Tuva Turks are an ancient Turkic group located in southern Central Siberia, and this study thoroughly examines concepts of contrast within Tuva proverbs. This study is shaped around the proverbs taken from the work titled Tıva Üleger Domaktar Bolgaş Çeçen Söster (2016) and other proverbs are not included in the study due to limitations. The thesis consists of four (4) main chapters. In the "Introduction" section of the thesis, the definition of proverb, the history of Tuvas, the origin of the word Tuva and its place in Turkish language, the compilations made about Tuva proverbs and examples of Tuva proverbs are given and a theoretical basis for the main chapters is prepared. In the second part, one hundred and one (101) proverbs identified from the aforementioned work are analyzed. In the third section following the second part, Tuva proverbs, which are equivalent to Turkish proverbs, are compared and their similarities and differences are given. In the third chapter following the second chapter, Tuva proverbs, which are equivalent to Turkish proverbs, are compared and their similarities and differences are given. In the fourth and final part, many issues such as the fact that Tuva proverbs are the products of the collective treasure, that there are universal commonalities in the narrative literary products of folk literature, and that the vocabulary of Tuva proverbs can be evaluated and explained in the semantological layer have been determined and evaluated in the "Conclusion" section. The research aims to understand the linguistic structure, cultural values, and worldview reflected in Tuva proverbs. Examining contrastive concepts is crucial for delving into the depths of Tuva culture and revealing the semantic richness of proverbs. The insufficient appreciation of traditional elements in the modern era may endanger the preservation of social memory and cultural heritage. Therefore, the study emphasizes the need to reconsider proverbs and other folklore products according to modern requirements. This work provides significant scientific contributions to understanding the linguistic and cultural features of Tuva proverbs.
