Abstract (EN)
The world is progressing rapidly as a result of continuous developments in the fields of science, information, communication and technology. Both individuals and cities that they live in are affected by this progress and by the mechanism that allows all these changes to occur. Trying to keep pace with these rapid and sudden changes, cities experience various environmental, cultural and economical difficulties. Spatial analysis and such solution strategies as the Planned Land Use are important for the solution of big or small-scale problems that emerge in urban areas or settlements, due, especially, to the effects of globalization.Turkey also has its share from the rapid and sudden developments occurring in today's global world. Located in the Marmara region, in the north-west of Turkey, the city of Istanbul is the driving force of development and change throughout the whole country. This study deals with Orhanlı, a quarter in the Tuzla district, to the southwest of Istanbul in the Marmara region. Changes and developments in land-use that took place in the Orhanlı quarter over specific periods of time have been evaluated. Spatial analysis of the Orhanlı quarter was performed by using satellite images and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The move in 1992 of DOSB from Kazlıçeşme (Zeytinburnu-Istanbul) to Orhanlı have given rise to various changes in this quarter. Accordingly, there has been an increase in residential areas, in those used for logistical purposes, and in companies doing business in various fields. This work, concludes the land-use of Orhanlı quarter between 1980 and 2010, and investigates the analyses of five different times and spatial differences which are resulted of these analyses.
