Abstract (EN)

Today, where the difference between virtual and recorded video is diminishing day by day, three-dimensional animation techniques are used in the production of many media content such as cartoons, television and internet advertisements, infographics, newsletters and television programs. Three-dimensional computer animations have a wide range of usage because they can offer different solutions for every kind of media and can respond to any kind of demand. Therefore, whatever the goal is, everyone needs an effective narrative and it is necessary to use an effective visual language for this. The aim of this thesis is to examine how light, which is an indispensable tool of expression for all visual arts, is used in painting and theater, and to investigate how this usage affects narration in cinema and to see the reflections of all these in three-dimensional animation films and to understand their differences and similarities. In this study, the tools and methods that have been used through the lighting workflow in animated film productions were examined in terms of technological and aesthetic aspects and three different scenes selected from three film-noir films were reproduced.
